ARABIC: THE HADITH SCHOLAR SAYYID MUHAMMAD YUSUF AL-BANURI AND HIS WORK MAʿĀRIF AL-SUNAN: A STUDY AND ANALYSIS

Abstract
Muhammad Yusuf Banuri was a well-known scholar in religious circles of Indo-Pak region in 20th century. He was often called Allama Banuri. His contribution does not confine to a single aspect, but exceed to many facets of his life. he was a good teacher as he served most of his life in teaching in different religious seminaries. He possessed leadership qualities as he played a pivotal role in some important religious movements of his time. He established one of the most famous and impactful religious seminaries in contemporary time named Jamiat al-Uloom al-Islamiyah known as Jamia Bnawria. He was a good researcher as he produced many books, booklets and monograph on various topics in religious domain, especially his work known as Maʿārif al-Sunan which is the commentary of Tirmidhi (a classical Hadith collection included in six most famous Hadith collections). This article mainly discusses this commentary and methodological approach of Allama Banuri in dealing with Hadith.
