URDU-EFFECTIVE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA: AN ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE

Abstract

Media refers to various means of communication and information dissemination that are used to convey messages more effectively in less time, whether on an individual or collective level. The significance of social media is increasing rapidly, primarily because individuals associated with traditional media are extensively connected to social media platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Skype, WhatsApp, Twitter, MySpace, Google Plus, Digg, and others to reach the public. Social media falls under the category of electronic media, through which people across the world are interconnected, sharing their messages, thoughts, and ideas with one another. The incredible speed of information transmission through social media has enabled individuals to connect with the entire world with just a single click.

In the modern era, social media has attained such a dominant position that traditional communication has lagged far behind. There is an urgent need for the state to utilize social media for constructive purposes. Instead of spreading sensational news, jokes, or personal attacks, efforts should be directed toward restoring domestic harmony, modesty, purity, and respect for relationships, while also taking measures to eliminate obscenity and immorality from society—values that are increasingly diminishing, if not entirely lost. This should be pursued with a spirit of diligence and innovation, employing courageous and thoughtful approaches.
