Abstract

Praise be to Allah, and prayer be upon the holiest Prophet and messenger of Allah.Sūrat Yūsuf (Arabicيوسف‎‎) is the 12th surah (chapter) of the Quran. It is said to have been revealed in a single sitting, being unique in this respect. The text narrates the story of Yusuf  while other surahs tend to jump between topics, this surah is special in sticking to its central theme throughout, telling a coherent story in chronological order. The Qur’an, which is a reflection of the magnificence and glory of Allah and is an eternal and everlasting miracle in itself, presents clear evidence and accurately foretells events. As a witness to these events, it presents true historical facts backed by strong logic and penetrating insight.It is a matter of fact that the Holy Quran has discussed all kinds of sciences of rhetoric and eloquence as we see the Arabic grammar is alive due to the Holy Quran. Such case is with the sciences of rhetoric. They exist and really appear in all the verses of the Holy Quran. This research paper is about the examples of Metaphor and Metonymy in Surah Yousuf. Here we have first of all given a brief introduction of the Surah Yousuf. Following the literal and idiomatic meaning of Metaphor and Metonymy, we have explained Metaphor and Metonymy with examples from Surah Yousuf.
